First Friday & First Saturday Devotions

First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

According to this devotion, the first Friday of each month was designated by Jesus himself as consecrated to honoring his Sacred Heart, to increase our love for him and to make reparation for past and present offenses against His love

“I promise you, in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the first Friday for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance; they shall not die in my disgrace nor without receiving the sacraments; my divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in that last moment.”  — Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary

How to complete the First Friday’s Devotion:

  1. Receive Holy Communion on each First Friday;
  2. The nine Fridays must be consecutive;
  3. They must be made in honor and in reparation to His Sacred Heart.

What a beautiful opportunity to seek God's blessings and consecrate yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus!

First Saturday Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

AS REQUESTED BY OUR BLESSED MOTHER AT FATIMA TO MAKE REPARATION FOR THE BLASPHEMIES COMMITTED AGAINST THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

On the First Saturday of each month, during any five consecutive months of the year, do these four things, each as a fervent act of reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the injuries which She suffers through the sins of mankind:

  1. Make a sacramental Confession;
  2. Receive Holy Communion;
  3. Recite five decades of the Rosary;
  4. Spend a quarter of an hour meditating on the fifteen Mysteries of the Rosary.

All four parts of this devotion require fervor and "with the intention of making reparation to Me" (revelation of Our Lady of Fatima to Sr. Lucia).  Remember when making your confession to the priest, that you state that your confession is made with the intention of making reparation to our Blessed Mother.

Note: the sacramental confession can be received within eight days either before or after the reception of Communion, provided the communicant is in a state of grace for Communion.

Reception of Holy Communion must take place within twnety-four hours of the first Saturday. The reception of Communion need not be part of a Mass.

The History of the First Five Saturdays Devotion

This rich devotion to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart of saying the rosary daily and making acts of reparation begins with an angel appearing to three children Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta in 1916 in the Cova de Iria in Fatima, Portugal to teach them to pray. They were taught the following two prayers in preparation for the Blessed Mother’s apparitions, and were to pray them in addition to their custom of praying the rosary each day.

“My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love Thee. I ask pardon for all those who do not believe in Thee, do not adore Thee, do not hope in Thee, do not love Thee.”

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, I adore Thee profoundly and I offer Thee the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of the same Son Jesus Christ, present in the Tabernacles of the world, in reparation for all the sacrileges, outrages, and indifferences by which He Himself is offended. And by the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.”

The Blessed Mother first appeared to the children on May 13, 1917 and told them that she was sent by God with a message for the world, which at the time was suffering the effects of the first world war. She promised that Heaven would grant peace to the world if her requests for prayer, adoration and consecration were heard and obeyed.

She explained that war is a punishment for sin and warned that God would further punish the world by means of war, hunger and persecution of the church, the Holy Father and Catholics.

“If My requests are not granted, Russia will spread its errors throughout the world, raising up wars and persecutions against the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will suffer much and various nations will be annihilated.”

The Blessed Mother repeatedly emphasized the necessity of praying the rosary daily, wearing the Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel and of performing acts of reparation and sacrifice.

During Her second apparition the Blessed Mother taught the children what we now know as the Fatima prayer said between the mysteries of the rosary “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need.” She also showed them a vision of her Immaculate Heart with thorns piercing It, offended by the sins of mankind and desiring reparation.

She told the children that She would take Jacinta and Francisco to heaven soon, but that Lucia was to stay on earth a longer time. “Jesus wants to use you (Lucia) to make Me known and loved. He wants to establish the Devotion to My Immaculate Heart in the world. I promise salvation to those who embrace it and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by Myself to adorn His throne.”

The heart of Our Lady’s messages is contained in what is known as the “Secret” which She confided to the three children in July 1917. The secret consists of three parts, the first two of which have been publicly revealed.

The first secret was a horrifying vision of hell “where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wills to establish throughout the world the devotion to My Immaculate Heart. If people will do what I tell you, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace. The war is going to end. But if they do not stop offending God, another and worse war will break out in the reign of Pius XI.”

The second part of the secret specifically prophesied the outbreak of World War II and contained the Mother of God’s solemn request for the Consecration of Russia as a condition for world peace. It also predicted the inevitable triumph of Her Immaculate Heart following Russia’s consecration and the conversion “of that poor nation” to the Catholic faith.

The Third Secret has not yet been made public but was written down in 1944 and has been in the possession of the Holy See since 1957. Most informed sources speculate that this portion of the Secret speaks to chaos in the Catholic church, widespread apostacy and a loss of faith beginning in the seventh decade of the 20th Century.

In December 1925, Our Lady and the Child Jesus appeared to Sister Lucia, who had become a Dorothean sister living in a convent at Pontevedra requested the institution of the First Saturdays Devotion. She showed her heart to Sister Lucia encircled with thorns. The Christ Child said:

“Look My daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console Me, and announce in My Name that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturdays of five consecutive months, confess, receive Holy Communion, recite the Rosary and keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary with the intention of making reparation to Me.”

Our Lord later revealed to Sr. Lucia that the reason for the five first Saturdays is because of the five types of offenses and blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

1. Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception.

2. Blasphemies against Her Perpetual Virginity.

3. Blasphemies against Her Divine Maternity, refusing at the same time recognize Her as the Mother of men.

4. The blasphemies of those who publicly seek to sow in the hearts of children indifference or scorn, or even hatred of the Immaculate Mother.

5. The offenses of those who outrage Her directly in Her holy images.

"Here My daughter, is the reason why the Immaculate Heart of Mary inspired Me to ask for this little act of reparation…and in consideration of it, to move My mercy to pardon souls who have had the misfortune of offending Her. As for you, always seek by your prayers and sacrifices to move My mercy to pity for these poor souls.” - Jesus's revelation to Sr. Lucia.  Source
