The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a process developed by the Catholic Church for prospective converts to Catholicism who are age 7 or older. Candidates are gradually introduced to aspects of Catholic beliefs and practices over months of prayer, discernment, and fellowship.
You may join us at any time if you are interested or know someone who is interested in entering the Catholic Church here at the Church of the Annunciation.
There are four periods one goes through as they journey towards full communion with the Catholic Faith.
First, the period of Inquiry: During this time one is introduced to the Catholic Faith in order to discern their true intentions and are introduced to the Christian community as an Inquirer.
Second, the period of Catechesis: One is formed through catechesis and begins to participate in the liturgical life of the community and Apostolic life of the Church as a Catechumen.
Third, the period of Purification and Enlightenment: Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, one Elects to become Catholic.
Fourth, the period of Mystagogy: The year of the Neophyte following one's full initiation into The Church after receiving Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
If you are already baptized you may wish to complete the Sacraments of Initiation: First Holy Communion and Confirmation. You would join RCIA as a Candidate.
If you are already Catholic you may also attend RCIA to learn more about your Catholic faith. All are welcome however, you must contact the RCIA coordinator 2 days prior to coming, so we may properly prepare and set up.
All meetings are in the Foley House on the Annunciation campus at 1618 Texas Avenue on Wednesdays at 6:20 PM.
Contact the office 713-222-2289 for more information or email the RCIA coordinator here.
